Embracing Your Body

So this weekend was the Junior Ring Dance at my school. It was so much fun, the best school dance I've been to! I wore this black mermaid dress, which incidentely, I had picked out the day before, and I absolutely loved it! It was a huge hit! I'm a curvy girl, I have hips, and I love the way this dress accentuates them to make you look sexy, not heavy. Side note: my butt looked amazing! Lol! Me and my friend took a picture with my "Kardashian Booty." :) I love wearing clothes that show you dont have to be stick thin to look great!

Hot Off The Press...

Each month, I get about seven magazines delivered to me. It's a bit of an obsession. Some of these subscriptions are new additions, while others I have been getting for what seems like forever. For this post, I decided to give a review of some of the best magazines out there. Enjoy!

Let's start with the classic...

As far as fashion magazines go, Vogue is the ultimate. The top of the pyramid. It doesn't get any better than this. If you want the inside scoop on everything happening in the world of fashion, Vogue is your bible. For over 100 years, they have been entertaining and informing women about everything from fashion to society. It should come as no surprise that I did my speech for english class last year on the history of Vogue magazine. Nerdy, right? Nerdy chic, perhaps?

As magazines go, Glamour has to be my absolute favorite! I love it! I only recently started subscribing to this magazine, and I am so glad I did. As it often happens with me and magazines, I saw one issue that I HAD to have (this Victoria Becham one, incedentely), and I fell in love with the magazine I discovered. I was hooked, and knew that this must be delivered to my house every month. Glamour has been voted the 2010 Best Magazine of the Year, and it's not hard to tell why. I love this magazine because not only does it have great fashion spreads and editorials, but it also has many articles that apply to everyday life. A lot of times with magazines, there is nothing practical that average women can apply to their lives. This is why Glamour really stands out. They have columns about work, friends, fashion, beauty, love, and everything in between. What more could a girl ask for?

Taking a break from fashion magazines, we have Vanity Fair. First, let's all just take a moment, look at the cover above, and give thanks to God for the sexiness He bestowes upon us....
Ok, onto the review. Again, my love affair with Vanity Fair began with the purchase of one magazine (again, the one pictured above, obviously). And again, I knew it must be mine. Vanity Fair has always been a magazine that encompasses chicness and sofistication. This is the magazine that women can turn to to get their fix on current events and major worldly issues, while still remaining glamorous. It is not a fashion magazine, but rather has more social pieces for women to sink their teeth into. And that is why I love them.

I do not currently subscribe to Allure magazine, but I feel that I will sometime in the near future. I picked up this issue with Kim Kardashian on the cover a couple months ago, and I was pleasantly surprised. Allure is a beauty magazine, so it is totally devoted to issues of skin, makeup, hair, etc. It's an excellent tool for women of all ages, and gives indespensible advide for everything beauty related. I definately recommend picking up a copy, maybe even subscribing.

I've been getting Teen Vogue for a while now, and I love it! I think it is great because it takes what's hot in fashion an puts a really fresh teenage vibe on it. The things in the magazine ae things that teens can wear, so it's a perfect tool if you're looking to update you style or go for something more daring. It really is indespensible.

Olivia

On The Road Again

Greetings from Washington DC, our nation's capitol! Well, technically, greetings from Alexandria, VA, where our hotel is, but you get the picture. Everyone else is currently asleep, but I felt the need to blog about my trip. We are here in DC because tomorrow we will be attending the Rally To Restore Sanity (And/Or Fear)!!! It is a rally hosted by Jon Stewart (The March To Keep Fear Alive is hosted by Stephen T. Colbet, respectively). I am so excited!! Thousands of people gathered on the National Mall being sane all at one time?! Yes, please! Tonight we walked around Old Alexandria, which is a super charming area of town with lots of little shops and restaurants. We went to an old fashioned candy store and bought over 40 dollars worth of candy. Oopsie! Ha! I can't wait for the rally tomorrow, so I guess I have to get some sleep now.

Oh Mon Dieu!

It's Gossip Girl in Paris! These are some stills from filming of the current season of GG. They're a little late, as these Paris episodes have already aired, but there are so cute I couldn't resist posting them! Enjoy!

Oh So Coco: Wedding Edition

That Extra Half An Inch

Last year was when I first discovered that Victoria Beckham has a fashion book, I immediately ordered it from the library. I hungrily devoured every page within a couple days. So today I felt the overwhelming need to rush to the bookstore and buy a copy for my very own. Victoria is one of my ultimate fashion icons, ask anyone! Her impeccable advice on everything from buying the perfect pair of jeans, to how to dress on vacation, to what to wear in the winter is hard to beat. She is always dressed so chicly, and hasn't changed the way she dresses since moving Stateside, which I absolutely love! I will be doing an Inspiration blog on her in the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fashion and loves having fun with clothes.

Reppin' The Red, Green, And Gold!

These pictures are from about two months ago, when the World Cup was going on. As I am half Portuguese, me and my dad got decked up in our Portugal attire to watch the Portugal-Brazil match. (We tied-- not too shabby) Portugal ended up being eliminated in the round of 16. Oh well, we had a good run. We also scored the highest defeat in the whole tournament when we beat North Korea 7-0! Spain would end up winning the World Cup for the first time in history! I was really happy because I love Spain and think they are a great team and country. Overall, this was such a fun World Cup, especially since the US went to the round of 16 as well, and a record number of people in the US watched. World Cup fever was definately upon us! I believe that soccer is emerging as a relevant sport in this country, and I couldn't be more excited! This country will realize the beauty of the Beautiful Game!

Won't You Please Come To Chicago, Just To Sing?

And the journey begins...

Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

My baby Charlotte :)
Black and White...

Hello friends! So last week, me, my mom, and my mom's friend went on a vacation to Chicago. We went to go stay with my cousin and her fiance. We had an amazing time, and did a lot of stuff in just four days. We began our journey on Saturday, and it was about a five hour drive, but really easy and fun. As you can see, the one time I choose comfort over fashion is when I will be lounging in a car for hours on end. Notice the pajama pants? Lol!

Once we arrived in Chicago, we chilled at my cousin's house for the rest of the day, walked around the neighborhood and went out to dinner at a cute little restaurant by their house.

On Sunday, we took a trip to the cute little town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It was so cute! And soo hot! We walked along the beach, went to little shops, and had burgers at a restaurant called Hogs & Kisses. Aww, how cute! My mom's friend picked up some Kettle Corn, and if I may say so myself, it was deeeeelicious! I named the bag Charlotte and adopted it, as I loved it so much! Haha.

The next day we dressed up in our best, took the El downtown, and spent the day shopping on Michigan Avenue. We went to every shop you could imagine: Bloomies, Saks, Neiman Marcus, Chanel and everything in between! I bought myself a new MAC lipstick in Viva Glam Gaga, I'll post a picture later :) I also got a shirt at Forever 21, which was huge there! It was a really fun day, and afterwords we went home, ate a homecooked meal and played Trivial Pursuit! Such fun!

On our very last day in Chicago, we got up early, said goodbye to our gracious hosts, and drove down to Navy Pier. The Architectural River Cruise had been recommended to us, so we decided to take it. It was really awesome! There were so many buildings to see, and we got to see them up close while learning about the history of everything as well. We then walked around the Pier having fun like we always do. I had to convince my mom and her friend to go on the Ferris Wheel with me. I literally had to drag them on! They were such wimps! Lol. But by the end they were totally loving it! Yay for being stubborn! Did you know that the Ferris Wheel was invented in Chicago? Fun fact of the day!

So overall we had a blast in Chicago! It's such a great city, I highly recommend visiting there if you've never been. It is very clean, and the people are so friendly! My family will be back in Chicago this October when my cousin gets married and I am so excited for that! Sorry there are so many pictures, but it was a great trip!

The Most Delicious Salad

This is the most delicious salad you will ever taste! It is very summery, although I love to eat it in the winter as well when it is snowy and cold out. It is my mom's recipe and it is one of my favorite meals! Also, it's super simple to make, but tastes like you spent all day preparing :) Here is everything in it:

Chopped Romain Lettuce
Cut Grilled Chicken Breast
Sliced Strawberries
Mandarin Oranges
Shaved Almonds
Poppyseed Dressing

It's that simple! Another tip: this salad tastes great when chilled :)

Inspiration: Emma Watson

Hermione Granger isn't a little girl anymore. Emma Watson is an absolutely gorgeous, classy girl who I love! She is simply lovely, and her style is very British, which I obviously love :) There is not much more to say, these photos all speak for themselves!

Inspiration: Cheryl Cole

Ok so I recently became obsessed with British singer Cheryl Cole. She was a member of the girl group Girls Aloud, which I will admit I had never previously heard of. The It Brit was married to soccer star Ashley Cole, but the two recently divorced. Very sad, as Ashley is very handsome and they looked very cute together. I love Cheryl's style because it is very simplistic and pretty, and always looks polished. Maybe it's the British in her :) She also has THE most incredible dimples, they are so sweet!
